HAIR LOSS

Hair lose is a tragic and emotionally damaging
and painful experience. Every individual requires
treatment differently. Hair loss is many a time
warning signal that our body is deteriorating
or disease is incoming. So it should be taken
seriously and do what the nature intends us to
do.
Most people lose anywhere from 50 to 100 of hair
each day, according to the American Academy of
Dermatology. On the days when hair is washed, people
can lose up to 250 strands. The hair on the scalp
is growing. Hair grows about 6 inches a year for
most people.
Although hair loss may seem like a more prominent
problem in men, women are nearly as likely to lose,
or have thinning, hair.
Women when waking up in the morning may have a
usually large amount of hair on pillow during hair
loss. When they comb hair more than normal will
be left in the comb.
Like a garden,a normal hair cycle should lead to
a product, which is the hair Growth cycles are
important because when we have hair
loss it should regenerate. It’s a very dynamic
place and anything that can get the cycle off can
cause hair loss.
Men’s hair tends to recede from the forehead or
the crown of the head, women have thinning on the
top third to one half of the scalp. Women may see
a part that is gradually becoming wider or see
more of their scalp than normal when their hair
is lose. Even women’s style and care for hair can
cause hair loss.
Hair is made up of a protein called keratin that
is produced in hair follicles in the outer layer
of skin.
As follicles produce new hair cells, old cells
are being pushed out through the surface of the
skin at the rate of about six inches a year. The
hair you can see is actually a string of dead keratin
cells. The average adult head has about 100,000
to 150,000 hairs and loses up to 100 of them a
day.
Luckily, most causes of hair loss can be stopped
or treated. The earlier treatment begins, the better
the outcome. Hair loss is harder to treat when
a person has a lost more hair.

WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS?
The reasons for hair loss are many. Some individuals
have hair follicles which are programmed to have
a shorter growth period than others.
When hair loss begins suddenly, the cause may be
due to illness, diet, medicine or childbirth.
If hair loss is gradual and becomes more noticeable
with each passing year, a person may have hereditary
hair loss.
Medicines you take, allergies you have, and whether
you have been dieting may be the reasons for hair
loss. Women should be asked about their periods,
pregnancies, and menopause.
Involution alopecia is
a natural condition
in which the hair gradually
thins with age. More
hair follicles go into
the resting phase,
and the remaining hairs
become shorter and
fewer in numbers.
Hereditary thinning or baldness (also called androgenic alopecia): This
is the most common cause of hair loss. It affects
men and women. Genes, from both male and female
parents, may influence a person's predisposition
to male or female pattern baldness. When men have
hereditary hair loss, they often get a receding
hairline. Many men see bald patches, especially
on the top of the head. Women, on the other hand,
tend to keep their hairline. They see noticeably
thinning hair. The first sign of hair loss for
many women is a widening of scalp part.
Alopecia areata: this is an autoimmune
disease. Autoimmune means the body attacks itself.
In this case, the body attacks its own hair. This
causes smooth, round patches of hair loss on the
scalp and other areas of the body. Alopecia areata often
starts suddenly and causes patchy hair loss in
children and young adults. This condition may result
in complete baldness (alopecia totalis). People
with alopecia areata are often in excellent health.
Most people see their hair re-grow.
Alopecia universalis causes all
body hair to fall out, including the eyebrows,
eyelashes, and pubic hair.
Cicatricial (scarring) alopecia: This
rare disease develops in otherwise healthy people.
The disease destroys a person’s hair follicles.
Scar tissue forms where the follicles once were,
so the hair cannot re-grow. As it progresses, the
hair loss radiates out from the center of the scalp.
The affected scalp becomes smooth and shiny. When
hair loss occurs quickly, the person may have tingling,
burning, pain, or itching on the scalp. Treatment
tries to stop the inflammation, which destroys
the hair follicles.
Underlying Disease: Hair loss
can be the first sign of a disease. By treating
the disease, hair loss often can be stopped or
reversed.
- Illness: Significant hair
loss can occur after an illness. A major surgery,
high fever, severe infection, or even the flu
can cause hair loss.
- Cancer treatments: Radiation
therapy and chemotherapy can cause hair loss.
This hair loss is often temporary, but it can
cause great distress.
- Ringworm of the scalp: This
disease is contagious and common in children.
Without effective treatment, ringworm can cause
balding.
- Trichotillomania (trick-uh-til-uh-mey-knee-uh): This
medical disorder causes people to repeatedly
pull out their own hair. They often feel a constant
urge to pull out the hair on the scalp. Some
sufferers say they feel compelled to pull out
their eyelashes, nose hairs, eyebrows, and other
hairs on their bodies.
- Medical conditions. There
are a wide range of conditions that can bring
on hair loss, the most common being pregnancy,
thyroid disorders, and anemia. Others include
autoimmune diseases, polycystic ovary syndrome
(PCOS), and skin conditions such as psoriasis
and seborrheic dermatitis, Other reasons for
hair loss include extreme stress; physical trauma
like surgery or intense illness; dramatic weight
loss over a short period of time; and taking
too much Vitamin A.
Hormones and stress
- Hormones, such as abnormal
levels of androgens (male hormones normally produced
by both men and women)
- Giving birth:
- Menopause:
- Stress:
Dieting and poor nutrition
- Weight loss: Some people see
hair loss after losing more than 15 pounds.
- Vitamin A: Too much vitamin
A can cause hair loss.
- Protein: When the body does
not get enough protein,
- Iron: Not getting enough iron
can lead to hair loss.
- Cosmetic procedures, such
as shampooing too often, perms, bleaching, and
dyeing hair can contribute to overall hair thinning
by making hair weak and brittle. Tight braiding,
using rollers or hot curlers, and running hair
picks through tight curls can also damage and
break hair.
Medicine
- Some prescription medicines can cause hair
loss. Drugs, including chemotherapy drugs used
in cancer treatment, blood thinners, beta-adrenergic
blockers used to control blood pressure, and
birth control pills, can cause temporary hair
loss.

Hair care
Improper washing, drying, and combing - Your
hairstyle and even some of the products you use
on your hair can cause hair loss.
HOW TO TREAT HAIR LOSS?
Beginning treatment as soon as possible after the
hair loss begins gives the best results, because
prolonged androgenic alopecia may destroy many
of the hair follicles. Stopping treatment will
result in the hair loss resuming if the androgens
aren't kept in check in some other way.
The effectiveness of these agents and methods vary
from person to person, but many women have found
that using these treatments have made a positive
difference in their hair and their self-esteem.

ALLOPATHIC
METHOD
Minoxidil (Rogaine)
Minoxidil - applying a solution of minoxidil directly
to the scalp could also stimulate hair growth.
Rogaine 2%, minoxidil seems to be more effective
for women suffering from diffuse androgenetic alopecia
than it is for men. But 5% minoxidil solution is
significantly more effective in both retaining
and regrowing hair in women with androgenetic alopecia
than the 2% solution.
Androgen Receptor Inhibitors
- Spironolactone (Aldactone)
Spironolactone acts as an anti-androgen in two
ways. First, it slows down the production of
androgens in the adrenal glands and ovaries.
Second, it blocks the action of androgens in
part by preventing dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
from binding to its androgenetic receptor.
- Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Cimetidine also has a fairly powerful anti-androgenic
effect and has been shown to block dihydrotestosterone
from binding the follicle receptor sites.
Cimetidine has been used to treat excess facial
hair growth (hirsutism) in women and has shown
promising results in studies of women with androgenic
alopecia
Cyproterone Acetate
Cyproterone acetate is prescribed for severe hirsutism
in woman and for androgenetic alopecia in women.
Cyproterone acetate exerts its effects by blocking
the binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to its
receptors. Cyproterone Acetate with Ethinyloestradiol
(Diane 35, Diane 50) is also available for special
cases and give good results
Estrogen and Progesterone
Estrogen and progesterone pills and creams may
be an effective treatment for women with androgenetic
alopecia who are going through menopause or whose
estrogen and/or progesterone are lacking for
other reasons. Only low-androgen index birth
control pills should be used to treat hair loss.
Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
These anti-androgenic effects can be used to help
treat hair loss. Nizoral shampoo contains 2% ketoconazole
and is prescribed not only for the treatment of
scalp conditions, but also in combination with
other treatments for androgenetic alopecia
Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar)
Finasteride helps slow hair loss in most (about
88%) men. It helps stimulate hair re-growth in
many (about 66%) men. The drug finasteride inhibits
the enzyme 5-alpha reductase in the hair follicle,
thereby inhibiting the production of follicle-harming
dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT shrinks hair follicles
and makes it difficult for healthy hair to survive.
It works quite well to prevent hair loss and trigger
regrowth for most men
Corticosteroid: If hair loss is caused by inflammation in
body, apply corticosteroid into scalp. This can help stop the inflammation
that happens when a person has alopecia areata.

HOMEOPATHIC METHOD
Healing forces are present within the body; you
have to cooperate with the body's restorative powers.
Manygo on trying many various medicines-
spend lot and lots of money but never get hair
on scalp. Long-term use of drugs never
gets people better, but slowly deteriorates and
hair fall goes on.
Homeopathic medicine covers a broad range
of healing philosophies.In homeopathy
excellent drugs are there for hair lose. This
gives result faster, with less suffering. Homeopathic
medicinecorrects body degeneration and
gives good results. It do not have the health
risks – side effects or toxicity. Homeopathic
medicine stimulates life energy within the body. This
stimulates healing on the physical, emotional
and spiritual levels to restore vitality in life.
In few selected patients homeopathic medicines
works wonder.
In homeopathic treatment whole body is considered
for treatments with hair lose. So this gives added
advantage to cure any other silent or evident diseases.
